2020 Iowa Caucus is a success in Poweshiek County
GRINNELL, IA – Despite a few minor glitches in reporting results, the 2020 Iowa Caucus was a complete success in Poweshiek County. There was a new computer app that was used in the reporting of voting results to the Republican Party of Iowa but all votes in the county were confirmed with RPI at 10:30 pm on February 3rd.
Turnout was higher than expected, particularly in Brooklyn, CGWS and JUPS precincts. Voters were enthusiastic and very upbeat – there were a total of 212 people who participated in this year’s caucus. President Donald Trump received 96.6% of the votes in Poweshiek County, which mirrors the overall total in the state. Also, it was encouraging to see a good amount of young voters who came to the caucus and participate in the process.
Many thanks to the hard working caucus chairs and secretaries and all the volunteers to make this year’s caucus a success. My special thanks to the custodial staff at Fairview Elementary School in Grinnell for their efforts to help us last night.
As for the night overall, it is disheartening to see the problems that occurred in the Democratic caucus. It is important that both parties have successful caucuses in order for the “first in the nation” tradition in Iowa to continue. We can only hope that last night’s events does not undo years of hard work in putting together the Iowa caucus.
